Be Curious

It's hard to imagine that it's been five years since I first started writing to you all. I've learned a lot in five years, and my life has changed a good bit since then as well. Thank you for the support, and I hope you've had a chance to reflect on your past year — cheers to a great 2020 and a new decade.

Perhaps the number one reason that I started this blog was out of curiosity. I wondered, would anyone care to listen to what I had to say? Would anyone read it? Would anyone ever sign up for more content? I was just curious. Curious if I build a little corner on the internet where I could speak to other designers and share my journey with them, would anyone come? Well, you did, and thank you!

Curiosity, I think, has been one of my main drivers so far in my career. I always am wondering what it would be like to do "x." Then I do it. I try it, and I learn from it. It's becoming a pattern, some of this I share with the world, some stuff I don't. Some stuff gets built. Other things never do and stay on my hard drive.

In the past, I felt that this could present a challenge to my career. However, recently, I've accepted that this is who I am. Being curious is how I grow and learn. With this curiosity, I've been able to unlock opportunities in my career, develop skills that I can either bring into InVision (or future companies), sell to my clients as services, and even share with you all.

With this realization, I'm currently building what I'm calling "My Playground," which will live on my website for you all to explore, support, and get curious about the projects that I'm building. I'll be sure to notify you when this launches in a few weeks.

WIth me sharing the above with you all, you may be wondering what my latest curiosity is?

Well, right now, I'm curious about the world of e-commerce and Shopify specifically. Over the last nine months, I've not only been working on tooling for Shopify, but I've also been building a store.

I'll share more on the tooling later, but I figured I'd share with you the store today (link below) as a way to soft-launch it to the public. Building this store has been a fun experience, and I've been learning a ton. I'd be happy to answer any questions. Just hit reply.

Here's a link to my first e-commerce store: D.G.Moorland & Co.

D.G.Moorland & Co. is a men's modern-day general store. I've just recently started to publish products on the store, and I have plans in 2020 to begin customizing and selling my very own products and collections as well. Although this isn't 100% a designer's brand, it's inspired by what designers like and may need. Today, it's focused on men, but this may change as I broaden the niche and continue to define who my audience is.

If you know someone who may also be interested in the store, please sign-up for the D.G.Moorland & Co. Patron Program by clicking on the gift box on the lower left of the store. You'll earn coupons and points as you refer someone. I welcome you to check it out and please let me know what you think. All feedback is welcome. Signing up for the D.G.Moorland & Co. Newsletter will also save you 10% and keep you informed of any new products as I add them.

Here's a promotional code for taking the time to check out this store: Enter "FriendsFamily" at checkout to receive 20% off your order of $15.00 or more.

Talk soon, stay curious, and Happy New Year!!
